Just because you’re now at retirement age doesn’t always mean that you’re ready to stop working. Whether it’s because you want to pad your retirement account so you’re ready for whatever the future holds for you medically or with your level of care or you’re simply not ready to stop with the routine of working, there are ways that you can be semi-retired while still having an easy job that brings in a bit of extra cash.
If this is something you’re looking into, here are three ways you can make money from home as a retiree.
Share Your Knowledge
With the time and experiences that you’ve lived through at your age, you likely have a vast array of knowledge that you can share with those who are still just starting out. So if you have a teaching spirit about you, sharing your knowledge with people online might be a good place to start.
There are plenty of possibilities for this type of work. You can create an online course for something that you’ve mastered over the years, work as a tutor for those who need additional help on various subjects, write an ebook that you can self-publish and share, or just create videos that you can then advertise on. Whatever it is you choose, as long as you’re having fun and helping people, you can make good money and find a lot of fulfillment through this endeavor.
Rent Out Your Belongings
If you’re planning to travel on a regular basis during your retirement, or if you just have a lot of possessions that you won’t be using yourself, you can also look into renting out some of your belongings to others.
While renting out your home when you’re away or extra garage space that you’re not using is one of the most common ways people rent out their belongings, you can also do things like renting out your car, renting large pieces of equipment you may have, renting sporting gear you’ve acquired over the years, and so much more. This can be a great way to make some passive income with very little effort on your part.
Offer Pet-Related Services
For those who spend a lot of time at home and are willing to offer a service to others, starting your own small pet-related business could be a great side project.
Many people find it hard to get their pets enough exercise and attention while working full-time. So if you have extra time on your hands and a passion for animals, you may want to let people know that you’re willing to pet-sit, walk dogs, or run a short-term daycare for pets in your neighborhood. You can also check other neighborhoods, for example, a 55 and older community would be a great option.
If you live in a 55 and older community, be sure to check the guidelines for pets.
If you’re wanting to make some extra money without having to get a job outside of your home, consider looking into some of the options mentioned above if you’re a retiree.
