4 Biggest Interior Design Mistakes

When it comes to making your house look beautiful, there are some people that get it right and some people that miss the mark entirely. The truth is that even though you might consider yourself an interior designer, there’s a lot that goes into making a home look beautiful.

Besides learning what you should do when it comes to designing your home, you should also pay attention to what you shouldn’t do to help you avoid some of the most common interior design blunders, here are some of the biggest mistakes to avoid when decorating your home.

Not Making Use of Space

One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not making use of the entire space that their home provides. Take a good look around and ensure that you’re not wasting any corners or rooms that could be used for something more useful. On the other hand, some people overestimate the amount of space that they have.  They may cram far too much into one small area, and as a result their home looks crowded and small.

Wrong Color Combinations

There are some colors that are just better left alone. Putting certain colors together won’t just make your house look tacky, but it can even affect the way that you feel. Some colors are more calming, while others can lead us to feel stressed, and in some cases, even angry, make sure that your home is full of neutral light colors that make you feel at peace when you’re inside.

Most of all, make sure that all of the color combinations you put together match each other.  clashing colors are a big nono when it comes to making your house look gorgeous.  Make sure that you get to know which colors go best with others to choose the best possible combinations.

Poor Textures

Choosing the wrong textures can be a huge mistake when it comes to decorating your home. Just because something might look nice doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s going to feel nice or be functional. Remember, you want to choose textures that don’t just look nice but also feel nice.

Choosing Appearance Over Function

In an attempt to make your house look like something out of a magazine, you might choose furniture or art pieces that are totally unrealistic. Make sure that in addition to choosing something that is pleasing to the eye, that you can actually use it. The idea is to create a home, not a museum full of things that take up space looking beautiful yet have no actual function behind them. Instead, choose an equilibrium of things that are lovely yet also realistic and practical for your home.
