Working from home. It has been talked so much recently that you’re probably sick of reading about it. But here we are with one more article talking about the benefits, how you can make the most out of it, and what you need to make it a success.
Below are some things you should definitely consider as you prepare your home – and life – around your new remote working routine.
A place to work (and only work)
Some people might not be able to do it due to the size of their space, but it’s important to set up a dedicated workspace if you can. Make it comfortable, but make decisions geared toward making it the most productive space in your home, including putting up some whiteboards, minimizing distractions, and more.
When we talked with some experts about working from home, Rasha Seikali, the Marketing Director at Bluemina, really emphasized the importance of having a dedicated space that is only for working, and we completely agree. The more you can separate work from your personal life, then the more successful you should be as a WFH-er.
A place to exercise
If you really want to make your home a one-stop shop to live a productive, healthy, and happy life, then you’ll need to find a place to get your workouts in. If you have the room, I would recommend you find a great home gym that works for you so you can do a variety of workouts through just one machine.
If you don’t have the space for a big home gym, then I would recommend finding equipment that can be stored away and doesn’t take up much room.
A place where you sleep
Sleep is important no matter where you work and what you do. We need sleep and your remote working setup should not impact where you sleep. Even if you live in a bachelor pad where everything is connected, you need to make sure you have a high-quality mattress to spend your nights on and do whatever it takes to sleep well each night.
If you find yourself struggling to sleep, then you might need to adopt some new routines to help you calm down. Things like sleep meditation, diffusers, sleep masks, and more can help you get the most out of your sleep each night.
A place to keep your tech
Many of us find it difficult to get away from our work when we’re doing it from home. We can’t seem to get away from our work and we’re constantly looking things up on our phone even when we’re away from our computer.Find a place to keep your computer and smartphone – and leave them there – so you can live your life away from work.
Find time to get away from work
Working from home can really take its toll on you if you let it. Work burnout and mental health problems often arise when people are working too much, abandoning any sense of routine, and not interacting with other people in order to live by themselves at home as they work.
This can be very dangerous and can lead to major issues and declining results in your work. You need to look after all aspects of your life to make sure you’re at your very best, and that includes finding time to do things you enjoy.
Set up a strict schedule for working and find time to get away from it. By removing yourself from your work, you can recharge your mind, refocus your energies, and come back to things with a fresh perspective. Working from home will only be a success if you look after yourself and find time to get away from the work you are doing.
