Moving to a new home – no matter if you are renting or buying – is very time-consuming, exciting, and also stressful. While the process might be fun because you are excited about getting into a new house and turning it into a home, there are times when you will probably not only want things to go a bit faster but also need to speed things up, as well. If you are trying to figure out how to save time when moving, you’ve come to the right place. Today, that is exactly what we are talking about. Here are a few ways to save time when moving, to help you get into your home as fast as possible, and hopefully without as much stress, as well.
Plan your move over a long weekend
When my friend Alex moved recently, she planned her move over a long weekend. While this does not necessarily save you time on the physical move, it will save you from having to take off a ton of work, in order to move all of your things, pack, clean, and get settled into your new house. Because you have more time to get things done, you will not be distracted by other things that you need to do (like work), which will allow you to put your full focus on moving, hopefully saving you time along the way. Planning your move over a long weekend is sometimes not possible, depending on when your move is, but if you are able to schedule it to fall on a holiday or long weekend, you can save yourself a lot of stress, since you will have extra time to devote towards your move.
Start packing way before you need to
You’re probably thinking: “How does packing sooner help me save time?” Well, let me tell you – when you give yourself longer to get something done, you usually try to do it faster (in shorter spurts) because you are just ready for it to be behind you. Giving yourself longer to pack can help in two ways. The first way that it will help is by taking the stress off your plate, compared to if you packed and moved all in one week. This gives you time to declutter, sell or trash items, and pack with intention. Say goodbye to your fast-packing-induced stress! The second way it will help is by sectioning off an hour or two at a time to pack, you will naturally save time because you just want to be able to get back to your life. You will still have time for everything else that you normally do, but you are also making slow progress, which will help you so much in the long run! When you pack, get creative. You do not need to use the typical boxes and bubble wrap for everything. Save money, effort, and time by packing with what you have – like blankets and towels.
Create a checklist
Next up: create a checklist. If I don’t have a checklist on-hand, I go much, much slower compared to when I have a checklist to keep me on track and on schedule. With a checklist, I can slowly work my way down, crossing my tasks off, and adding things. This ensures that I know what I need to get done, and by when, and I can continue to add to the list if anything comes up. If you are attempting to stay organized, save time, and have a stress-free move, this is 100% the best way. Create a list!
Hire a professional moving team
The best way to save time on a move? Don’t do it yourself, if you are able to hire a professional moving team. Find affordable movers, such as Consider it Moving. These residential movers are the best of the best and they also offer Commercial Moving in Long Island, as well. Created in 2018, Consider it Moving offers stress-free and efficient moves, which will dramatically cut down on your time AND stress.
Keep up with self-care
Last but not least, keep up with self-care. Make sure you are hydrating, eating enough, and taking care of yourself. Give yourself a break when you need it! Why does this help? Because if you are depleted and running on fumes, you won’t be able to work as hard and as fast, which WILL delay your move. Save time by prioritizing your health and wellness, and what your body needs, during the entire move.
